Rule of third, Framing, Avoid the middle and leading lines
Monster's university has a rule of third in this piece of concept art as mikey and sully are placed either on the two vertical or horizontal lines, This is what we focus on first.
Rapunzel uses Framing in this concept art as the first thing you notice is the castle and it's lights in the background before you notice the boats or the people in the boats at the front.
This Piece of concept art from The Croods uses the technique of avoiding the middle and this is effective because it gives the image balance and looks a lot better
El Coggyio
It was hot day when it happened, The sun struck down on the scorched city of Heroica Veracruz, Mexico. My Name Was Just Que cause that's all I wanted to be called as I was once a simple man who had a strange obsession with that of the steampunk world, I wanted to see a world of steampunk and nothing else but yet while people saw me as odd they left me and my shop alone. It was quiet for many years as I grew into my early thirties but then our town became host to a new wrestling tournament that would host all year round every year with the champion being giving the earnings from that year's contenders. The town loved the idea and I was a huge fan but I didn't imagine that one day I would be stood in the changing rooms, waiting for the commentator to yell out the welcome for the final years fight of 2034. My name is El Coggyio and this is my story.
I wanted to be left alone on today's day, the festival of the dead, It reminded me that steampunk was dying in this age of mechas and that soon I might be it's only fan as I watched the people gather round and smile as they partied away. Stepping out of my shop had me greeted with a strange man who wore everything Hi-Tech and futuristic who started directly into my eyes like he was trying to do Ghost rider's penance stare but failing miserably.
"What with the cogs?" He asked with a dumb looking grin that showed most of his teeth had been replaced by machinery which by his stature was hard to tell if it was by fighting or by choice but I didn't fear him as he had no reason to quarrel with me.
"It's steampunk, why do you want to obtain some?" He laughed and squared me right in the face with a metal fist as my eyes widened is disbelief, as my body fell down into the door of my shop I saw his fist swinging again this time knocking me through the glass and breaking down the door.
It hurt but I couldn't let someone just get away with it, as I tried to stand the person had already made his way into my shop and started trashing my stuff, breaking the wood and iron cogs like they were mere sticks and spoons. When he had had his fun he decided to return to me and stood upon my right forearm, pressing down as blood began leaking out I heard him say "Steampunk is dead you little shrimp.
Don't let me see your store here again". Looking back at him after he was done, my arm bleeding as he squashed through the bone and the flesh of my arm into the cold slated ground like it was some meat. My arm was useless but I needed revenge and I was going to get it.
Looking back on that I realized how bad I was at defending myself and my store but now I had some pride to uphold, my wife enter through the curtain but her words were short and of disbelief, though I didn't blame her. My attempts would be stupid and I knew this but I was still determined to try and beat this man... or die trying.
"Please... we can leave here... it will be nice just me and you" Her hands placed on top of my cold wooden hand that I have to rebuild myself out of the parts from the broken items of my shop but she knew that for me, retreat wasn't a choice.
"WEEEELCOME LADIES AND GENTLEMAN TO THE FINAL MATCH OF THE YEAR IT'S OUR 15TH YEAR ANIVERSARY OF THIS TOURNAMENT AND YOU CAN WIN IT ALL FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR IF YOU HAD ENTERED" Standing up as she looked at me, her hazel brown eyes staring into my greenish blue ones but all she did was give me a kiss and left.
"HERE'S OUR COMPETITOR, ELLLLL COGGYIOOOOO!" Hearing those words made me see that I had no where to go, no where to hide, no where but forward into the place to fight. Slowly walking into the arena as I faced him again, Mecha Mocca. His lips formed a thin grin as they slowly parted into a metal and bone smile as he glared at me. Swallowing down my fear I glared back I was going into this match but I wouldn't leave until I was victorious and he was dead.
My Name is El Coggyio and this is how I gave life back the steampunk... and this is my story.
